  • All private landlords in England
  • Whether you use an agent or self-manage
  • Regardless of portfolio size

What the Ombudsman does:

  • Investigates complaints from tenants
  • Can order landlords to apologise, provide information, or take action
  • Can award compensation to tenants
  • Decisions are binding on landlords

Penalties for Non-Compliance

  • Civil penalties up to £7,000 for failing to join
  • Civil penalties up to £40,000 for serious or repeated breaches
  • Inability to register on the National Landlord Database
  • Restrictions on serving possession notices
